12/26/2008

Well we have about 3' to 4' of snow on the ground. I don't think you will get to much ORV riding in right now. Remember that if you do come up, Ogemaw County has a few trails that you do share with the snowmobiles. Snowmobiles do not look out for anyone so be very careful if you are out there. We won't be out on ORV or Snowmobiles this winter with me having a hip replacement but I am sure other patrolers will be out there. If you need any help, just ask one of them to help you out! Have a Happy New Year!!

Winter is Here!

Yep, Winter is officially here. Currently we have approx. 8 inches of snow on the ground and it is still snowing. Not much ORV riding going on. I saw 2 quads going down our road yesterday but that about it. Remember that it is hunting season. Stay out of the woods for your own sakes. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Whinding down!!!

Well the major part of fall riding in done. Pretty soon the snowmobile's will be out on some of the trails that you share so make sure you use caution when using those trails!! We would like you to remember that if you ride on the roads, you do not have the right of way on the roads especially with all the snow banks that will be piling up. Cars are bigger than you and could care less that you are on the road so use caution. The laws are always the same weather it is summer, winter or fall. Make sure you get aquainted with them!!!
Some of us patrolers have been hitting townships that are trying to adopt the new ORV laws in. If you are not in a county or township that has it, get ahold of us to find out when your townhall meeting is so that you can go and let your counsel members know that you are in support because believe me, there are ALOT of people who will show up to let them know why it should not be in their area. We need ALL the support we can get!!!! If you want the right to ride, then you should show your support of the law! We will be in Mio on November 25th. They will be voting on adopting the law that night. There are ALOT of people who do not want it and are truly against it so if you can, SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!!!!
I am having a total hip replacement in December so I wont be out of patrol with the jeep or my snowmobile but there will be other people out there so if you see them out there, stop them and let them know how much you enjoy all the work that has been done give you the right to ride your ORV on the trails and roads in Ogemaw County!!!
Tread Lightly!!!

Did you hear what I hear?

Yep I believe the weather guys are saying we have SNOW coming! Sounds like it is going to be a wet and chilly night for Friday Night Football! Make sure you cuddle next to the person close to you and dress REALLY warm. If you come up riding, the leaves are pretty much brown and dead and falling or gone. It will be a wet weekend to ride so if you want mud, come on up! Will try to get out on the trails Saturday night and take some pictures. See you on the trails!!!

We are Chilly!!

It is truly turning cool fast. Been watching the weather channel and the WEST is looking really toasty and warm. Hmmmm if it were not for snowmobiling, I might be tempted to head that way for a little while. But any whooooo! The leaves are almost brown now. Alot are on the ground. With all the wind and some rain, they are falling off very fast. I really need to get out a rake but I am just not into it right now. With the gas prices going down, hopefully you can get up and enjoy the last of the nice weekends. Remember we have wonderful camping parks here that you can park, rest and ride from. Please make sure you give them a call and make your reservations. Some are still open for snowmobiling if you are interested in camping during the winter.
PLEASE remember that the speed limit is 20 MPH if you are not liscenced with the SOS. Also, QUADS!!!! You are NOT allowed to ride side by side! I don't know how many I have seen and you always have an excuse. There is no excuse accepted when you are stopped by that "wonderful" man dressed in green. He WILL give you a ticket so when I stop you and tell you that it is not acceptable, thank me instead of being hostile because I am trying to save you from a ticket!!!! Remember, if you keep driving past our house thinking we wont turn you in, we are not the ones who are going to call but I will get out to the road if possible to slow you down! We have neighbors that are VERY anti-ORV so think before you act! You are not just hurting us, you are hurting the law that we fought to get for you and us alike. Don't abuse your right to ride!!!

I know you all are waiting for pictures of the color tour. We are on dialup and every time I try to download pictures I am getting an error. So my son-in-law's going to download pictures tonight onto my photobucket account so I should be able to have a slide show going soon. I am sorry for the delay!!! Looks like another good weekend on tap and our colors are falling fast. We had high winds and rain early this morning and alot of leaves came down, so this might be your last weekend for some good color. Hope to see you on the trails!!

Nice Weekend Coming!

Well I checked with the "weather wizards" and it looks like a beautiful weekend. Our colors are in "Full" bloom. It will be a wonderful fall weekend to come up and ride! Looking over the valley's and hills of West Branch give you a spectacular site right now. The reds and oranges are so vibrant. I am sure the heavy frost and 30 degree weather is going to cause them to start dying and falling soon. So come on up and enjoy the last full color weekends that we have. Soon the snow will be falling and us "snowmobilers" will be out riding the trails! Take care and we will see you on the trails!!!!

What a Beautiful Day!

It was a wonderful crisp day to sit out on the ORV route today and watch all the bikes go by. But I have to tell you, those little ones out there riding with the big guys were the cutest things you will ever see. They brave the trails, elements and traffic just like the veterans. I can't wait for my grandson to get bigger because his Papa says he is getting a bike. I took alot of pictures. I hope you find yourself in one of them! We had a really good turnout, I think! We met alot of wonderful people on the trails and can't wait til next year. We would like to say a special "THANKS" to all the Bent Wheel people who manned the roads and intersections. It made our lives easier this weekend so that we could enjoy meeting alot of the riders. Also Thanks to the ones who were cleaning and raking the roadways. We really appreciate that! I will be posting pictures as soon as I can get on a faster upload than dialup. See you on the trails!!

6:00am and 32.2 degrees

Yeah it is REALLY chilly this morning. If I had pumpkins out, I am sure they would have more than frost of them this morning. We are up early getting around and ready for the ORV parade today in Rose City. I hope to have a good amount of pictures for you today. We will be out and about making sure everyone is having a wonderful time. The trails have some mud in them from all the rain we have been having and the heavy frost the last two mornings. Dress warm and have fun! See you on the trails or at the campgrounds!! Tread Lightly!

Where are my mitten??

We have a VERY chilly morning! The stats outside this morning states 32 degrees. My dog went out side this morning and when I called her in, I thought she was going to break a leg because the deck was icy from all the rain and sleet we received all day yesterday. YEP! Fall is really here with all her fury! I just want to remind you because I know alot of you come up and camp that you need to bring warm clothes this weekend. I don't want you missing work because you caught a cold and did not listen!!!
Jim and I went through Rose City yesterday and they are all ready for the CCC Color Tour. They have signs all through town and they are also annoucing the parade so I hope we have a good turnout. I hope McDonalds has alot of hot chocolate because I am sure everyone will be running in for coffee and hot chocolate.
Jim and I also trimmed some trails. Hopefully you will be able to see the stop signs. Please use alot of caution when coming up to your stop signs. Some roads that you will be crossing are driven on like people are on I-75. They are not looking for you, so you need to look for them.
Last of all, remember to have a WONDERFUL weekend. Enjoy the colors because they are out there in full detail.
See you on the trails!!!

Baby It's Cold Out There!!

Can you say Brrrrrrrrrrr??? and don't forget to add in a little shiverrrrrrr! The stat outside reads a warm 39. If you are bringing a tent this weekend, make sure you pack your thermal undies. Looks like fall is coming in with a bang or two. We are suppose to get more rain today which we really need although I know you don't want to hear that but at least it is suppose to be sunny this weekend. We will be out patroling tomorrow night! See you on the trails!
