They want everyone to know that for Memorial Weekend they are keeping their gas prices at $3.99 per gallon. They are also offering a doughnut and small coffee for under a buck. We are seeing people heading up and riding. Went for a ride today. No one out yet. I am sure we will start seeing alot more when Mother Nature decides to give us good weekends and the kids get out of school.
See people starting to get rooms at Scenic Hotel in Rose City. There was dust and there was mud! I vote the mud the best though! They had a really good turnout of participants and spectators. The trails were quite. Not many people out riding around. Sure the gas prices have alot to do with it. Ambrose Lake had about 10 campers. Beaver Trail Campground was packed out. It is really nice to see our local economy reaping from the benefits people staying in Michigan for a vacation this year. Sadly our summer riding time is becoming shorter. We are almost to the month of September and everyone will be back into the swing of school and getting back to the grind of working full time until Christmas break. We on the other hand are looking forward to the white stuff also. I was down all last winter due to a hip replacement but trust me, I WILL be out there with the best of them riding the snowny slopes and bumpy trails that winter brings to this wonderful state of Michigan. Would never trade the delights of the (4) seasons that we get in enjoy in Michigan. Sure as time passes by, I am like most people and would enjoy a month in the sun come March and April but winter is almost done and I would gladly trade mud and dirty snow for some much needed sunshine by then. So enjoy the last few weekends you have left of the northern woods. Don't forget to come visit us for the Fall colors. The BentWheels Orv club will be having their color tour the first weekend of October, so get ahold of them and join the fun.
See you on the trails!!!

St Helen ATV Jamboree pictures

<img style="float:left; It sounds like it will be a really good time for all and the weather looks good too! Hope you all can come and join in on the fun. We will be there somewhere!
The trails in Ogemaw have been a little quite with the price of gas going up and down and alot of other counties opening their roads to ORV users. We are really excited about it but sad at the same time. I can't visit with you all if you go to other counties but HEY, I want the whole state of Michigan to survive but I like to keep it in Ogemaw county too!
Well see you on the trails!!!

Wow, the 4th is almost here!!!

Well it is Tuesday and some of you are already up riding in the woods. After the light rain that we received most of the day yesterday, there might or might not be mud puddles. I don't have any laying around here so I am thinking it soaked into the ground as soon as it was hitting it. We were in desperate need of some rain.
Well the 4th is only a few days away! There will be fireworks in the town of Rose City and West Branch if any of you are interested. Check anywhere in the two towns and someone will be able to tell you were to sit for a good view of the fun. I know there is a parade in the city of Rose City. We will be scoping out the fireworks in Rose City like we do every year. I must say for a small town they are very nice fireworks. Fun is had by all!!
Stay safe, tread lightly and we will see you some where out there on the trails!
I have to send out a shout-out to Big E Bakery and Ice Cream shop! They have AWESOME soup and sandwiches and the price is a good deal. The ice cream of course is even better!!
Don't forget to let the merchants in town know that you appreciate having the ORV ordinance in town!!!

CCC/Bent Wheels Pictures

<img style="float:left; It has been in the 80's and 90's. Not much rain so the trails are VERY DUSTY!!!!
Well the CCC/Bentwheels Bike run last weekend was excellent. It seems like everyone had a wonderful time and no serious injuries were reported. No one got lost either so there was no need for our Search & Rescue teams. I had a blast standing at the corner of M-33 and Heath Rd. It was so much fun seeing all the riders on Sunday. I want to THANK ALL of the riders who thanked us for being there. It was a very nice gesture. I have pictures to follow!
I have to tell you about a story that one of our ORV Patrol Officers was told the other day. We have alot of people who ride horses on the trails that are also now occupied by ORV/ATV riders. He was a little worried when the new ordinance took affect because of the noise vs his horses. He told our patroler that he was amazed at the generous effort ALL riders that he has come across took to not spook his horses. He says that EVERY rider that he has come across and he stated it was 100 or more has ALWAYS turned off their BIKE/ATV/ORV until he was well away from them so not to spook his horses. He was so amazed and excited that you all do that for horse riders. I also want to tell you all how PROUD I am of all of you that has shown compassion and generosity to outdoor enthusiast no matter what they may be riding. It's wonderful to know that you all act like one big family and it takes a BIG person to do that now days. So thanks a bunch from all of us and keep up the good work.
Just a note to all people who wish to ride up into Oscoda County while riding the trails in Ogemaw County. We ask that you please get a map for that area. There are ALOT of places you can't ride no matter what people are telling you. The DNR and State Forest Officers have NO TOLERANCE for us! They are handing out tickets left and right and are not giving you any warnings whats so ever. You are not allowed to ride on roads in the state forest unless it is posted that you can ride on it. If it's not posted, its not legal.
Well anywhooooo, with summer officially here, remember the bug spray and your water and have a WONDERFUL time here in Ogemaw County.
Tread Lightly and See you on the Trails!!!!

Rose City Trailhead Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

<img style="float:left; Many Northern Michigan counties have turned to off-road vehicles as a way to bring people into the area.

Ogemaw County was the first county in the state of Michigan to pass an ordinance opening the shoulders of roads throughout the county to ORVs, when commissioners voted to accept the ordinance on Sept. 11, 2008.

Since that time, 34 other counties have passed a similar ordinance, including neighboring Arenac, Roscommon, Iosco, Gladwin, Oscoda, Crawford and Alcona counties.

And according to Rose City-Lupton Area Chamber of Commerce President Mike Dunn, more people bringing ORVs to Ogemaw County means economic growth.

“That’s huge for us,” Dunn said of the county’s ORV ordinance, as well as the opening of trailheads in Rose City and Lupton. “I think that’s helping to open the door for economic growth. I hope everyone else does too.”

West Branch Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Steve Leonard said that while the West Branch area may not necessarily see a direct benefit of ORVs in Ogemaw County, there certainly are some indirect benefits.

“It brings a lot of people to the area,” Leonard said. “West Branch doesn’t see a great benefit, but Rose City does, of course. Those businesses earn money from ORVers and then there’s the trickle-down effect.”

Leonard agreed that being an ORV-friendly county can be a big help to the local economics.

“ORVs are very important to our area,” he said. “A lot of people come up here. It’s brought a lot of new business to the area.”

Dr. Kendall Paulson, owner of Rose City Chiropractic, was instrumental in bringing the ORV ordinance to Ogemaw County, according to many. He said the ordinance has brought a lot to the area.

“Many ORV activities, business opportunities, and trail projects have been taking place in our county as a result,” he said. “These include becoming the destination of choice for the largest ATV club in Michigan. This club has contributed to the Rose City Playground Fund and assisted in the Lupton Trail Project, which will provide an ORV/snowmobile parking area and access to food and gas in Lupton for riders coming from the very popular Bull Gap trail system.”

Yamaha Corporation recently presented a $10,000 grant toward that project. In addition, Yamaha also presented Rose City with an additional $18,750 grant for a trailhead which held its grand opening Tuesday.

Paulson added that last year, the state’s largest off-road motorcycle group celebrated its 40th year in Rose City for its fourth-consecutive Fall Color Tour. More than 450 people participated in that event.

“The Beaver Trail Campground of Clear Lake is busier than it has ever been, catering to ORV enthusiasts,” Paulson said. “That was a campground that took over three years to sell because of lackluster business. Now it’s enjoying full capacity most weekends. The Clear Lake Bar installed a gas pump. Realtors report ORV enthusiasts looking for property and cottages in our county as opposed to others without ordinances.”

Bob Hetherington oversees the Sheriff’s ORV Patrol, and he says Ogemaw County has a lot to offer ORV riders.

“We’ve got a lot of nice hills here,” Hetherington said. He said he talks to people from all over — including people from out of state, as well as Canadian residents.

“They all come up because they like the hills,” he said. “They like the opportunity to (ride on the sides of the roads and) get food and get gas.”

Hetherington said that before 1992, all county roads and two-track trails were open to anyone. However, in 1992 a law was passed that closed roads and two-track trails to ORVs unless posted otherwise. He said when the opportunity arose to once again open the shoulders of the roads to ORV traffic, it had to be done.

“It was very important to get all this opened up,” he said.

And since the ORV ordinance was passed, Hetherington said he has seen a large increase in the numer of ORVs in the trails.

Hetherington said that ORVs are becoming the new snowmobile.

“ORVs outnumber snowmobiles now,” he said. “We’re trying to get more trails opened up. If you put all the ORVs on the trails that we have now, it would be like Detroit at rush hour. We need to open up the two-tracks.”

Currently, while ORVs are allowed to operate on the shoulders of county roads, they are still not permitted on two-track trails, which Hetherington described as a road with a strip of grass down the center.

He said there is talk of possibly opening up the two-track trails to handicapped riders and seniors.

“We’re not trying to see how fast we can go,” he said.

According to Hetherington, there are approximately 50 miles of trails in Ogemaw County. Those trails lead to 342 miles of trails in other counties.

“From our area you can access six different trails in Roscommon and Oscoda County,” Hetherington said. “That’s what makes it so neat here.”

Wow we are busy!!!

First of all I have not been able to really post My power cord caught on fire for my laptop so I am currently on my OLD laptop which is slower than molasses in winter.
We had our ribbon cutting ceremony last night on the Rose City ORV Trailhead. It was an awesome turnout. I will be posting pictures as soon as my new power cord gets here. Hopefully today seeing they said it was shipped out on the 12th. So come riding and visit the new trailhead. It is right in town and you can reach the gas stations and resturants in town. Remember that you CANNOT ride on M-33 even though it is named a different road in the town of Rose City it is still a state run road and you are not allowed to drive on it with an ORV or unlicesened motorcycle.
We have a busy weekend coming up. The Bent Wheels Cycle Club will be up this weekend in Rose City. They will be having runs on Saturday and Sunday. I posted their information on a prior posting. I am sure if you show up, they will let you join their awesome club and let you ride their events. They do have rules that you must follow and do have noise restrictions for your dirt bike. So come on up, it looks like a decent weekend to ride!!!
There will be a Ogemaw Sheriff' ORV patrol meeting tonight at Badlands so that everyone can get ready to patrol and keep everyone safe. Also to let everyone know that we also have patrolers that are on a Search and Rescue team so if you need help, just flag someone down and we will get things rolling for you.
Just want to remind everyone about the age restrictions for riding an ORV and a motorcycle. There are different requirements and age requirements for an ORV vs a Dirt bike. Please make sure you know the correct laws for the county that you are riding in.
Some trails and roads are open in Oscoda county but Forest Roads ARE NOT allowed to be riden on unless you are licensed by the State of Michigan. If you are going to end up in Oscoda County, PLEASE get yourself a State Forest map and STUDY it. I would really hate for anyone to get a ticket and the Forest Officers and the DNR have a NO TOLERANCE Policy towards ANY ORV or Motorcylce/Dirt Bike. Someone is always trying to rain on our parade and we are just trying to keep you updated so that you have a wonderful vacation without the tacked on cost of a "Costly" ticket.
So ride safe, ride with knowledge and most important of all, ride to have FUN!!!
See you on the trails!!!!

Bent Wheel Enduro June 20-21, 2009

THE BENT WHEELS ENDURO TRADITION HAS RETURNED
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH M.O.R.E AND FAMILY ENDURO SERIES
ROSE CITY, MICHIGAN

Family Enduro Series
Bent Handlebar Classic
June 20 & 21, 2009
Perfect Family Event- Great Spectator Sections
RIDE SATURDAY WITH THE FAMILY OR ON A VINTAGE BIKE
RIDE SUNDAY IN THE D-14/D-15 ENDURO
RESTART FORMAT – NO TIMEKEEPING EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
MOTOCROSS BIKES WELCOME – MUST BE EQUIPPED WITH SPARK ARRESTOR, ORV STICKER AND PASS 96db SOUND TEST
THIS IS A POINTS CARRYING EVENT FOR THE MI FAMILY ENDURO SERIES
On site staging and free camping- fresh water, pit toilets, all amenities nearby – gas convenience stores, motels, etc. Badlands 989-685-3955 Scenic Motel 989-685-2668

FES ENDURO SIGN UP ON DAY OF EVENT ONLY
$20 per rider/$15 non comp bike
Sign up Saturday Morning 7:30 AM until 10:30 AM
START TIME 11:00 AM RIDERS MEETING 10:00 AM
ORV sticker and spark arrestor required 94 db sound limit

FES 2009 Class Structure
A – Buddy Class B – Ages 4-6 C – Ages 7-8 D – Ages 9-11
E – Ages 12-13 F – Ages 14-15 G – Women: Ages 11-15 H – Women: Ages 16+
· Your age on January 1st generally determines the age class that you ride in for the entire season. This past weekend was particularly busy in town with the Memorial Day Holiday. We had a considerable number of ORV's utilizing the new access into town. ORV's were seen in number at our local Gas Stations, Restaurants, Hardwares, and other businesses.

With the increased ORV traffic, our township offices also received complaints of noise, dust, and speed. It is important that they also hear from the people that are pleased to have this access privilege and use it responsibly. Your input is important !!! Under the law, townships have the right to restrict roads approved by the county. Therefore, it is imperative that we police ourselves and follow the regulations for travel on the county roads. Let's not allow a few irresponsible riders to ruin it for the majority !! If we want to keep this access privilege, to ride our ORVs to the trail system rather than trailering them to a staging area, and access food & fuel in the St. Helen area, it is critical that we abide by the rules and control those that abuse it.

Please take a little time to email our County Commissioner and our Township officials letting them know providing ORV access was the right thing to do.

Bob Schneider – Vice-Chairman, Roscommon County Commissioners

bobschneider@roscommoncounty.net

Supervisor Jerry Campbell

supervisor.richfield@charterinternet.com

Clerk Pamela Scott

clerk.richfield@charterinternet.com

Treasurer Judy Scroggin

treasurer.richfield@charterinternet.com

Trustee Tula Alexander

tpa48656@lycos.com

Trustee Pete Rieli

pjrl_54@charter.net

Memorial Weekend

Well the holiday weekend is upon us. West Branch is now the proud parent of a new business called West Branch MotorSports. I have attached a link at the bottom of the blog so that you can get to their website. www.westbranchmotorsports.com. I was VERY excited to come across this new business. Now if you run across problems when here for your vacation or weekend run, you can run into West Branch to pick up what you need. They just opened on April 22nd. I will be making a run into town to check them out. We were in at 7 this morning and they were not open yet. Early bird gets good breakfast! :D When you are up and around, please stop in and say HI to them and let them know you appreciate them being in town.
Remember to TREAD LIGHTLY!! See you on the trails!

M-33 In Rose City, MI

I have received a few calls from local people in Rose City. It seems that quad riders are using the shoulder of M-33 to ride. YOU CANNOT RIDE ON THE SHOULDERS OF M-33, M-30 or M-55 in Ogemaw County. It is a state maintained highway and is OFF LIMITS to ALL riders unless your ride is licensed by the State of Michigan or another State. I have requested that they call the local authorities about the situation. You WILL receive a ticket. It is against the law. We that live in Ogemaw County ARE NOT exempt from the laws. Locals are just as much at fault as vacationing folks. This law CAN be revolked. You need to make a copy of the current law and read it.
St Helen has opened up some new roads that allows you to get into town and eat and gas up. Remember to read the below post from St Helen so that you know the correct roads.
Also Mio is having a meeting this morning, I guess some of the town is not happy that only certain roads are open in Mio. Looks like people might be able to obtain entrance to the city on other roads. I will try to keep you updated on the road situation there. Tread Lightly! Obey the Rules!!

St Helen Power Sports Newsletter

----- Original Message -----
From: St. Helen Power Sports
Newsletter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apr. 22, 2009

Local News & Events

Richfield Township ORV Access Update

On Tuesday April 21st, the following motion was passed for ORV Access in Richfield Township. Although this motion does not include residential areas, it does provide access to additional food & fuel in the St. Helen area. The attached .pdf file shows the existing all-season routes in green, and the additional all-season routes in purple. The motion also establishes an ORV Safety Patrol to provide education and supervision in the township.

ORV Access Motion

1. ORV Patrol

Establish a Volunteer ORV Safety Patrol within the CERT Program under the Richfield Township Public Safety Department.

2. Expanded Year-Round Road Access

The following roads be opened for Year-Round Access.

F-97 from Wolverine Drive (southern township line) north to Artesia Beach Rd.
Ash Street from Artesia Beach Rd. to Lakeview.
St. Helen Rd from I75 trail north to Trail Crossing.
F97 from Central Drive north to the Marl Lake Rd. (Township line)
F28 from F97 east to the township line
Airport Rd. from Old M76 east to Township Campground Trail (10mph speed limit).
3. An application should be filed to the DNR to open the trail running parallel Artesia Beach Rd from F97 (west township line) to the corner of Artesia Beach Rd & N. St. Helen Rd. This trail would keep ORV traffic off Artesia Beach Rd.

We extend a special thanks to the following for their comments and long travels to support this issue:

Dick Ranney, Chairman State of MI ORV Advisory Council;

Bob Hetherington, Chairman Ogemaw County ORV Safety Patrol;

Bob Grace, and the Group from the Jackson Trail Riders;

Justin Plunkett and the group from JP's Great Outdoor Adventures.

This Township Motion is just the first step in opening these roads. The recommendation now moves to the county level for Roscommon County Road Commission & Sheriff Department input and finally to the Roscommon County Board of Commissioners for approval. This process will take some time.

Please let our County Commissioners know that you are in favor of increased ORV access and the Richfield Township request.

Roscommon County Commissioners

Ed Nellist – Chairman, Roscommon County Commissioners

ednellist@roscommoncounty.net

Bob Schneider – Vice-Chairman, Roscommon County commissioners

bobschneider@roscommoncounty.net

Ken Melvin – County Commissioner

kenmelvin@roscommoncounty.net

Marc J. It is in the process of being finished but I thought I would give you a sneak peek of it. As I stated in prior postings, the new trail head will be located in the City Limits of Rose City. It is on Rose City Rd. Turn right off of M-33 go approx. 2 city blocks and you will see it on the left (north) side of the road. We are hoping the ground work will be started soon! Keep your fingers crossed.
We had a large group of riders up that one of the patrolers ran into at Ambrose Lake parking area. Other than a slight injury the riders enjoyed their time in Ogemaw County and are really excited about the new trail head opening up in Rose City.
Looks like the gas prices are steady and we hope you all enjoy the woods in Ogemaw County!
See you on the trails!!

The Start of 2009

Well we still have some snow in the woods, but it is looking better. 62 degrees today so that should help alot. I have to remind you that Roscommon County DOES NOT have an all year allowance for ORV's on their roads. Which also means you can not ride on the sides of the roads in St Helen.
I don't know how many times I have to repeat how important it is to follow the laws for the county that you are riding in and be observant when crossing into another county. You MUST wear required gear for the appropriate ORV/Motorcycle that you are riding. You CANNOT ride double or MORE people on a single riding ORV. We had two patrollers run into two men and two young boys all riding on a single person quad. Not only is that not legal they also did not have helmets. I have to warn you that the DNR are out and looking in Ogemaw County. We have a big Bulls Eye painted on our county. The DNR would love it if we could not ride on the sides of the roads here. Please help us keep our laws and rights. OBEY THE LAWS!!!
I have been told that the fine prices have risen this year and with us all digging farther into our pockets to make the money stretch I am sure that a costly fine would really put a damper on your trip. I know that most fines are starting out at $150.00. So lets say you had two people on a single person Quad and neither had a helmet on which one of our patrols ran across two young ladies like this, it would cost you approx. $150.00 ea for the helmet missing, then another $150.00 for riding double on a single person quad. So if my teenager came home with a ticket from the DNR or police for $450.00. I think I would think twice about what they were doing before I let them take off on the quad.
On a lighter note, it looks like things are starting to slowly move on the parking area in Rose City. Hope you all will be able to enjoy it soon!!!

Local News & Events
Yamaha Awards GRANT of $18,750 to
Rose City-Lupton Area Chamber of Commerce
GRANT “Guaranteeing Responsible Access to Our Nation’s Trails”

Rose City, MI -- Rose City-Lupton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce it has received a Yamaha OHV Access Initiative GRANT of $18,750 for development of a Trail Head & Staging Area within the city limits of Rose City. The GRANT was awarded as part of Yamaha’s OHV Access Initiative promoting safe, responsible riding and sustainable, open riding areas. Steve Murad, Yamaha Motor Corporation representative, presented the grant check to Denny Nurski, treasurer of the Rose City-Lupton Area Chamber of Commerce at the Rose City council meeting February 3rd.

Pictured above (l-r) are Rose City Mayor Dave Reasner; Rose City DDA Board member and Yamaha grant applicator coordinator, Marge Nurski; Bent Wheels Club member, Ron Sape; Rose City-Lupton Chamber of Commerce treasurer, Denny Nurski; Yamaha representative, Steve Murad; St Helen Power Sports owner, James Lyttle; and ORV Patrol Committee Chairman, Bob Hetherington.

This project is a collaborative effort between the Wes Ramsden family, the City of Rose City, the Rose City-Lupton Area Chamber of Commerce, and St. Helen Power Sports. The Wes Ramsden family donated three acres of land on the east side of town to Rose City. The actual development of the site will be done in three stages, the first stage is to provide access off Rose City Road and a parking area for the OHV enthusiast. “Rose City is virtually surrounded by OHV trails, yet lacked a Trail Head and Staging Area for the enthusiast to more easily access these trails. Although our county roads are all legal to ride, there was not place for the enthusiast to leave their vehicle and trailer unless as a guest of a local motel” according to Marge Nurski, administrator for this project.

Yamaha has been supporting local efforts to encourage safe, responsible off-road riding and providing trail access. According to Steve Murad, “Yamaha is excited about Rose City-Lupton Area Chamber of Commerce’s efforts and we are happy to contribute to its success.” Other local Yamaha GRANTS include Richfield Township ORV Campground improvements in St. Helen, and South Branch Trail Head improvements.

The Chamber and ORV Committee hope to have the OHV Staging Area opened by Memorial Day weather permitting. An actual opening date has not been set.

Please Pay Attention!

I have posted this before but I guess it needs to be reposted. You MUST read the rules for each county on their rules for ORV usage in their area. YOU CANNOT RIDE YOUR ORV IN THE CITY OF PRUDENVILEE OR HOUGHTON LAKE!. They have a VERY strict policy. You can only ride your ORV in certain areas and in certain months. Their law only benefits local ice fishing season.
We did get ALOT of rain last night. Our schools are cancelled today due to our roads being nothing but ice. We need some new snow. Of course we still have alot on the ground but it is getting packed so some new snow would be great for those who are out riding sleds or ORV's.
Have a great day!!!

Hurry up Spring!

There are alot of things that we need to go over before the spring comes and people really start getting out on the roads and trails. PLEASE remember to always check with the county that you are riding in. Not all counties have the same rules for ORV riding. Roscomon County has a very limited riding law. PLEASE make sure you look at their law before you ride. We still in alot of areas in Ogemaw have aprrox. 2 or more feet of snow on the ground.
We have some EXCITING news. There will SOON be a staging area in the City of Rose City. You will be able to park your vehicles and trailers and leave from that area to ride . There will be access to the ORV trail through the back of the parking area. To find this staging area. You will travel North on M33. When you come to the light in town you will turn Left on Rose City Road. You will go approx. a city block. It will be located on the right (north) side of the road. You will find at the back of the lot a bulletin board that will have the ORV laws for Ogemaw County and a map. Trail maps are available at several bussinesses in Rose City. So keep checking with this blog and I will try to keep you up to date on the process of the staging area.
There is a club, Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan. If you go onto their website, www.cycleconservationclub.org you will be able to get a schedule of their Events for 2009.
May 16-17,2009 ORV Safety Patrol Trail Tour~ Mio
August 8-9, 2009 Tri-County Chapter Trail Tour ~ Mio
October 3-4, 2009 40th Annual CCC Color Tour ~ Rose City
They also have a magazine that you can inquire about, it is called Great Lakes TrailRider. I have been reading the January 2009 magazine and it has alot of really good information and and good things to read. You should check it out!!!
Well Mr. Groundhog says 6 more weeks of winter. Looks like it might be a little longer up here!
Hope to see you all on the trails. This is the time of year to make sure you have all the kids signed up for training courses. Make sure the bikes and quads are all oiled up and plugs changed and last years dirt and grime cleaned off so that you can start out fresh this year. Have fun on the trails up remember there are RULES and you are expected to follow them. We will be out patroling again this summer. We have new memebers joining us this year so we will have a few more wondering around. We will have our Orange vest on so we will be easy to spot. REMEMBER to stay off the snowmobile trails that are not marked for ORV use. You will get in trouble and result in a ticket. Remember the helmet rules and if you have a two up, you can ride 2 people, if you DON'T have a LEGAL two-up you will get a ticket if you have two people on a single rider ORV.
Remember we are out there to help you! So get ready ya all for a nice and warm SUMMER!!!
See ya soon!!!

12/26/2008

Well we have about 3' to 4' of snow on the ground. I don't think you will get to much ORV riding in right now. Remember that if you do come up, Ogemaw County has a few trails that you do share with the snowmobiles. Snowmobiles do not look out for anyone so be very careful if you are out there. We won't be out on ORV or Snowmobiles this winter with me having a hip replacement but I am sure other patrolers will be out there. If you need any help, just ask one of them to help you out! Pretty soon the snowmobile's will be out on some of the trails that you share so make sure you use caution when using those trails!! We would like you to remember that if you ride on the roads, you do not have the right of way on the roads especially with all the snow banks that will be piling up. Cars are bigger than you and could care less that you are on the road so use caution. The laws are always the same weather it is summer, winter or fall. Make sure you get aquainted with them!!!
Some of us patrolers have been hitting townships that are trying to adopt the new ORV laws in. If you are not in a county or township that has it, get ahold of us to find out when your townhall meeting is so that you can go and let your counsel members know that you are in support because believe me, there are ALOT of people who will show up to let them know why it should not be in their area. We need ALL the support we can get!!!! If you want the right to ride, then you should show your support of the law! We will be in Mio on November 25th. They will be voting on adopting the law that night. There are ALOT of people who do not want it and are truly against it so if you can, SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!!!!
I am having a total hip replacement in December so I wont be out of patrol with the jeep or my snowmobile but there will be other people out there so if you see them out there, stop them and let them know how much you enjoy all the work that has been done give you the right to ride your ORV on the trails and roads in Ogemaw County!!!
Tread Lightly!!!

Did you hear what I hear?

Yep I believe the weather guys are saying we have SNOW coming! Sounds like it is going to be a wet and chilly night for Friday Night Football! Make sure you cuddle next to the person close to you and dress REALLY warm. If you come up riding, the leaves are pretty much brown and dead and falling or gone. It will be a wet weekend to ride so if you want mud, come on up! Will try to get out on the trails Saturday night and take some pictures. Been watching the weather channel and the WEST is looking really toasty and warm. Hmmmm if it were not for snowmobiling, I might be tempted to head that way for a little while. But any whooooo! The leaves are almost brown now. Alot are on the ground. With all the wind and some rain, they are falling off very fast. I really need to get out a rake but I am just not into it right now. With the gas prices going down, hopefully you can get up and enjoy the last of the nice weekends. Remember we have wonderful camping parks here that you can park, rest and ride from. Please make sure you give them a call and make your reservations. Some are still open for snowmobiling if you are interested in camping during the winter.
PLEASE remember that the speed limit is 20 MPH if you are not liscenced with the SOS. Also, QUADS!!!! You are NOT allowed to ride side by side! I don't know how many I have seen and you always have an excuse. There is no excuse accepted when you are stopped by that "wonderful" man dressed in green. He WILL give you a ticket so when I stop you and tell you that it is not acceptable, thank me instead of being hostile because I am trying to save you from a ticket!!!! Remember, if you keep driving past our house thinking we wont turn you in, we are not the ones who are going to call but I will get out to the road if possible to slow you down! We have neighbors that are VERY anti-ORV so think before you act! You are not just hurting us, you are hurting the law that we fought to get for you and us alike. Don't abuse your right to ride!!!

Bent Wheel Color Tour 2008 Pictures

http://s491.photobucket.com/albums/rr276/TmHic9/ORV%202008/ Click on this link to go to pictures!

Pictures!

I know you all are waiting for pictures of the color tour. We are on dialup and every time I try to download pictures I am getting an error. So my son-in-law's going to download pictures tonight onto my photobucket account so I should be able to have a slide show going soon. I am sorry for the delay!!! Looks like another good weekend on tap and our colors are falling fast. We had high winds and rain early this morning and alot of leaves came down, so this might be your last weekend for some good color. Our colors are in "Full" bloom. It will be a wonderful fall weekend to come up and ride! Looking over the valley's and hills of West Branch give you a spectacular site right now. The reds and oranges are so vibrant. I am sure the heavy frost and 30 degree weather is going to cause them to start dying and falling soon. So come on up and enjoy the last full color weekends that we have. Soon the snow will be falling and us "snowmobilers" will be out riding the trails! Take care and we will see you on the trails!!!!

What a Beautiful Day!

It was a wonderful crisp day to sit out on the ORV route today and watch all the bikes go by. But I have to tell you, those little ones out there riding with the big guys were the cutest things you will ever see. They brave the trails, elements and traffic just like the veterans. I can't wait for my grandson to get bigger because his Papa says he is getting a bike. I took alot of pictures. I hope you find yourself in one of them! We had a really good turnout, I think! We met alot of wonderful people on the trails and can't wait til next year. We would like to say a special "THANKS" to all the Bent Wheel people who manned the roads and intersections. It made our lives easier this weekend so that we could enjoy meeting alot of the riders. Also Thanks to the ones who were cleaning and raking the roadways. We really appreciate that! I will be posting pictures as soon as I can get on a faster upload than dialup. The stats outside this morning states 32 degrees. My dog went out side this morning and when I called her in, I thought she was going to break a leg because the deck was icy from all the rain and sleet we received all day yesterday. YEP! Fall is really here with all her fury! I just want to remind you because I know alot of you come up and camp that you need to bring warm clothes this weekend. I don't want you missing work because you caught a cold and did not listen!!!
Jim and I went through Rose City yesterday and they are all ready for the CCC Color Tour. They have signs all through town and they are also annoucing the parade so I hope we have a good turnout. I hope McDonalds has alot of hot chocolate because I am sure everyone will be running in for coffee and hot chocolate.
Jim and I also trimmed some trails. Hopefully you will be able to see the stop signs. Please use alot of caution when coming up to your stop signs. Some roads that you will be crossing are driven on like people are on I-75. They are not looking for you, so you need to look for them.
Last of all, remember to have a WONDERFUL weekend. Enjoy the colors because they are out there in full detail.
See you on the trails!!!

Baby It's Cold Out There!!

Can you say Brrrrrrrrrrr??? and don't forget to add in a little shiverrrrrrr!
